Welcome the natkd.com Amtgard page! The purpose of this web page
is to provide information about Amtgard in the Austin, Texas area and to
provide general information about Amtgard and its activities.How
Active is Amtgard in Austin?
Amtgard is extremely active in the Austin and Central Texas area.
At any given time there are usually 2-3 active parks in Austin.
Current active parks are: Slaughter Creek which meets on
Sundays (South Austin at Mary Moore Seawright Park), Nocturnis which meets on Saturdays (Cedar Park
at Brushy Lake Creek Park), and Torimar which meets on
Wednesdays (Central Austin at Hide Park).

What is Amtgard?
Amtgard can be described many ways. In general it is a
confederation of groups who meet regularly at public parks to explore
various types of activities that range from Medieval/
Renaissance/Fantasy period explorations, Medieval Combat Arts such as
Sword, Shield and Polearms, Arts and Sciences (Crafts) such as Sewing,
Leatherworking, Blacksmithing, Art, Cooking, Music, Writing, Armor
Making and Music.
Amtgard
also instills a since of learning, knowledge sharing and service to the
group. The group gives out various awards for service to the
organization (setting up events, teaching others various skills),
displaying skills in Arts & Sciences (arts & crafts), or fighting on the
field (with safe foam weapons). Each Kingdom hosts several events
per year, which can be compared to large Renaissance Festivals that you
can actually participate in. In summary Amtgard is a large social
group, the promotes learning, exercise and companionship.
Is Amtgard for You?
Amtgard
appeals to many people from all stations of life and interests.
Often Amtgard appeals to people who have interest or experience in the
following activities:
- Attending Renaissance or Celtic Festivals
- Sci-Fi/Fantasy books and movies such as Brave Heart, Harry
Potter, The Lord of the Rings etc...
- Fantasy and Role Playing Games (RPG's)
- MMORPG's like World of Warcraft
- Participants of reenactment groups such as the Society for
Creative Anachronism (SCA)
- Console games such as X-Box 360, PS3, Wii (Oblivion, Fable2,
Final Fantasy)
- Martial Arts (Fencing, Karate, Judo, & Tae Kwon Do)
- Gaming in general
- Arts and Crafts (Sewing, Painting, Singing, Cooking, Music,
Leatherworking, Amoring)
- Meeting new and interesting people and learning new skills
